The board of the Helsinki Association of Civil Engineers and Architects is the core of the association's advocacy activities and one of its leading bodies. The board is responsible for the management of the association's affairs, strategy and finances, and represents the association externally. The board also plans and organizes, together with the association's office, the most important member events organized by the association itself.
A position of trust where you can genuinely influence the association's operations and decision-making.
Board members play a significant role in determining the direction of the association. By serving on the board, you can help influence how our association operates and what its future will be like. Board work offers members a perspective on the development of the association and the construction industry, as well as the opportunity to participate in advocacy in cooperation with our umbrella organization, Rakennusmestari ja -insinöörit AMK RKL.
In its operations, the board generally emphasizes, among other things, the association's strategy, good practices, member services or benefits, communications, and consideration of different member groups (for example, working-age people, students, and seniors).
Responsibilities are divided among the board members through committees. In these committees, board members can delve into specific areas and put the association's annual action plan into practice. In addition, the board forms internal working groups to resolve and work on current issues of the association.
Working on the board is rewarding and important for the continuity of our association. The work of the board includes joint idea generation and problem solving for the good of the association. Even in a more official role, the meaning of working in the association remains: it is nice to promote things that are important to all of us together.
If you are interested, you are warmly welcome to join! Contact the association office or a board member for more information. Attend the Master's Evenings, autumn and spring meetings and follow the board's activities. This way you will get the best idea of what board work is like and you can find your own way to participate.

Regards,
Jere Väisänen
Chairman of the Board
Serving on the board is voluntary work for which there is no financial compensation – but it offers a lot that cannot be measured in money. It is a significant and respected position of trust, which also offers a clear competitive advantage in the labor market. Board work offers an excellent opportunity to network with other professionals in the field and create new contacts. At the same time, your own professional skills are increased and your experience in organizational activities and working in a position of trust deepens. Many people have gained new perspectives on their own work through board work and even made friends with colleagues. Board work also develops leadership and cooperation skills, as you learn to work as a team to achieve common goals.
All regular members of the association are eligible to apply for the board – regardless of background, age or experience. New faces and ideas are always welcome: no special skills or previous experience in association activities are required. The most important thing is to have an interest in the association’s activities and a desire to influence its development. The current board has unanimously stated that active participation of the membership is the lifeblood of the association’s operations. Therefore, we hope to include both younger and more experienced members to bring new perspectives to the association’s decision-making. In order to ensure the continuity of the association’s operations, we need members of different ages and with different skills to participate in the board’s activities.
The board is elected annually at the association's autumn meeting, which all members can attend. You can run for board membership directly at the association's autumn meeting or by notifying your interest in advance, for example to the association's office or a board member. Active participation by the membership in the association's annual meetings is important in order to provide the association with the best possible elected officials.
